History recalls, the ancient Apricot Tree is said to have first come to fruition in a number of places around the world; Armenia, India and China. The popular fruit soon travelled to Rome, Greece and Turkey - which is now the largest producer of Apricots. Apricot Oil has been used in Chinese and Ayurveda medicine, for centuries, to treat and enhance the skin, hair and health.
Wild Apricot trees are cultivated in steep slopes of dry, rocky and less fertile hillsides, in warm and dry climate, such as the Mediterranean. It can take from two to six years after plantation for the Apricot tree to bear fruit. The Winter will see the flower buds bloom, while the Spring brings forth the ripening of the fruit and by late Summer, the Apricots have harvested to the size of golf balls and turn orange in colour with a strong, aromatic scent, ready to be picked. The fuzzy outer layer we are all familiar with is called, ‘Exocarp’, which protects the fruit’s flesh, referred to as ‘Mesocarp’. The ripe seed, is the essential source for extracting ‘Apricot Kernal Carrier Oil’. The seed is extracted, through a vigorous cold pressed technique, to produce an oil, lightweight and yellow in colour.
Used on the skin topically, the non-greasy, and non-irritating, soothing Apricot Kernal Oil has numerous botanical benefits, rich and high in Vitamin A and E, which can be used on all skin types and easily absorbed. This super powerful essence, is anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, antiseptic, anti-aging and contains potent antioxidants. Natural acids such as Oleic Acid (Omega 9) and Linoleic Acid (Omega 6) are also found, with further added skin benefits.
