Glucomannan is a type of fibre found in the roots of the elephant yam, also called Konjac.

Key Ingredients

Konjac Glucomannan: Konjac Glucomannan can promote weight loss results. Glucomannan absorbs water and becomes gel-like, promoting the  feeling of fullness. 

How it Works

Konjac Glucomannan is highly absorbent, binding to water to form a gel, promoting weight maintenance and weight loss by:
  • Creating a sensation of fullness that can reduce appetite
  • Delaying stomach emptying, keeping you feeling fuller for longer
  • Breaking down carbohydrates more slowly, stabilising post-meal blood sugar levels and
  • Decreasing fat absorption

Effectiveness: Three human studies showed that glucomannan, combined with a healthy diet, can help people lose 8-10 pounds (3.6-4.5 kg) of weight loss in five weeks (1).

Other Benefits: Glucomannan is a fibre that can feed the friendly bacteria in the intestine. It can also lower blood sugar, blood cholesterol and triglycerides, and is very effective against constipation (2), (3), (4).

Konjac Glucomannan for Weight Loss, Blood Pressure and Cholesterol: 2008 systemic review found that konjac glucomannan may help lower total cholesterol, LDL (un-favourable cholesterol) and triglycerides. Researchers concluded that glucomannan could be a great therapy for people high cholesterol. A subsequent study found that konjac lowered LDL and recommended its use to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.

Konjac Glucomannan for Weight Loss and Fatigue: Konjac breaks down carbohydrates more slowly, stabilising post-meal blood sugar levels.  As well as reducing body weight, Konjac can reduce fasting blood sugar levels, enabling you to remain energised throughout your weight loss journey. 

Konjac Glucomannan for Weight Loss and Constipation: Research has shown that konjac glucomannan can ease constipation. This 2008 study showed that adding glucomannan to a low-fibre diet increased the amounts of probiotic bacteria in faeces and increased bowel movement function by 30%.

Konjac Glucomannan for Weight Loss Results: According to a 2005 study, adding a glucomannan fibre supplement to a balanced, 1,200-calorie diet caused more weight loss than a 1,200 calorie diet plus a placebo. Adding an additional fibre supplement (guar gum or alginate) did not have an impact.

Konjac Glucomannan and Skin Health: According to a study conducted in 2013, konjac can improve skin health and reduce acne. It’s thought to reduce allergic response and improve the healing of wounds.

Weight loss vs. Fat loss: Weight loss points to a reduction in the overall body weight, whereas fat loss refers to weight loss, specifically from losses in fat mass at different body parts. A reduction in body weight due to the loss of fat rather than muscle should be your priority if weight loss has been advised by your GP.
