Nourishing the Mind

Our minds play the biggest role in almost everything we do, say and experience so we must nourish our mind and be thoughtful and conscious about what we choose absorb into it.

We all find it tricky to stop and think back about our day, week or even year! It is so important for our personal growth to reflect from time to time as it can really help with our mindset and having a generally positive outlook on life.

Now is the time to take up journaling, meditating or positive affirmations. Writing down what we are grateful for or meditating can start us on the right foot for the day.

With many of us now working from home, it is vital now more so than ever for us to get up, get out and get some Vitamin D and fresh air into our day. It is such a great way to refresh the mind and we can go back to our work with a clear head.

We have so much content available at the click of a button that we forget some of the best stories are those on our shelves. We should all be making a conscious effort to pick up a book more often. Curl up on the sofa and get lost in a good book. Once we start, we won’t be able to stop.

Our minds like to be challenged, so why not challenge it to learning a new skill. It is never too late to explore something completely new. Why not try cooking a new dish or even go as far to learn a new language. Lockdown measures are meaning we are spending a lot more time at home so make sure to learn something you've always wanted to but never had the time.

Nourishing the Body

Nourishing our bodies has become even more important this year with lockdown measures meaning we have been forced to stay inside and this has restricted the amount of movement most of us do. Our bodies crave movement, healthy eating and being stretched.

Getting our 'five a day' is one of the most essential dietary requirements but how many of us can say we actually do it? Try new recipes and experiment with new vegetables, this can help to ensure we get all the nutrients our bodies needs to function healthily.

Moving our bodies doesn’t always need to be in the form of an intense exercise class or a 5k run. Listen to our bodies as sometimes they need slower movement. A simple walk or stretch is important to keep our joints and muscles supple.

Creating a sleep pattern is key. If we start by making a conscious bedtime schedule that ensures we get our eight hours of sleep then it will start to become natural for our bodies to sleep at this time.

Nourishing the Soul

Nourishing our soul is often the one we forget about. It is important for us to invest time into having moments of quiet, going on an adventure somewhere new, decluttering and giving ourselves permission to relax.

We need detox from technology and remember that there is a world beyond what is in our phone. One thing to try could be to take breaks away from our phones. Keeping it in a different room, using an app which allows a certain amount of screen time per day or just having a technology free evening are all ways we could tackle this.

Decluttering is the perfect way to let go of things in our life that we no longer need. Regularly going into our closets or our pantries can be great for our soul as it frees our space both physical and metal.

It is okay for us to say no to things we don’t want to do without having to justify ourselves. We end up over committing to things we don’t want to do because we feel we cannot say no. It is difficult at first but the more we do it the more we will realise how good it is for our soul to feel free and in control of our own lives.

It is vital to give ourselves some downtime and just relax without feeling guilty or that we should be doing something else. Productivity isn’t always productive for our soul and wellbeing. Focus on maintaining a good balance between productivity and relaxing.
