Good afternoon all,
Ayesha here, researcher and contributing editor at BN.
Being a woman, all of us admire, desire and aspire for healthy and glowing skin. A sense of having good, clean, healthy and glowing skin is so satisfying for me that I am ready to drive to the beauty corner many times a week. But what if all I need to do is take a few steps towards my kitchen and prepare the fruits and vegetables from my fridge and make a glowing skin smoothie? It will be a time saving, money saving, nourishing treat, right?
Many skin problems are caused by food allergies, the food we eat or the toxic lifestyle we adopt. Smoothies are an excellent way to detoxify the body, and it is a healthy habit to include in our daily lives. I love to have a big smoothie for breakfast; it is ready in less than 5 minutes, contains nourishing ingredients, is both satiating and satisfying and above all, tastes delicious. Avoid overdoing it on the coffee, dairy milk, and refined bread as you start your day, and opt instead for a super smoothie to make your skin glow.
Instead of only focusing on topical, skincare elements, shake up your beauty routine and use the food you put in your body as a skin tonic and see it as vital as regular toning and moisturising.
So, whilst you're probably already having your smoothies with healthy ingredients, adding glow-getting ingredients like cucumber, papaya, or chia seeds could change the game for your glow.
Following, are a few smoothie recipes designed for glowing skin that are full with vitamins and minerals. All these recipes are light, healthy, colourful and taste like heaven. Whilst we are not ones for providing strict recipes to follow, below we recommend the ingredients to include into your daily smoothie and juice boosts for an energising dose of skin loving, skin plumping, skin optimisers. All the ingredients we suggest are perfect for the skin, but it's not a miracle drink-If you don't eat well, don't exercise and don't live a healthy lifestyle, it will be much harder to achieve naturally glowing skin.
Green on Green Smoothie
A significant requirement of glowing skin is hydration and what is better than a water rich cucumber for hydration. The cucumber is packed with enzyme-rich water and antioxidants, making your skin soft and smooth and helps fight off wrinkles. Alongside cucumber, you can add kale's vitamins for new cell growth and some significant beauty benefits. Mint or basil are great herb additions as is celery and spinach.
Green Apple Pie Smoothie
If you spend a significant part of your day in the sun, you should throw some spinach into your blender. The leafy green is full of vitamins that are important for healthy skin—including vitamin C. Vitamin C is essential for the formation of collagen, which keeps your skin looking smooth and radiant. Another ingredient with superpowers when it comes to skincare is Tofu! The tofu makes smoothies extra thick, creamy and packed with protein, which promotes skin elasticity - protein and it's amino acid building blocks, are very good friends of the skin.
Purple smoothie
Another tasty recipe I tried is a delicious leafy purple vegetable packed with vitamin C and antioxidants that fight skin-damaging free radicals. Purple cabbage, when blended, taste as good as blueberries! Both are also high in fibre needed for digestive health, helping to remove waste and unwanted toxins that affect the skin. Yes, trust me, I am a big fan of this one and telling you to drink your cabbage!
Beet Smoothie with Strawberries and Kale
Another recipe is a glass full of anti-ageing super green kale and fibre-rich strawberries. Even though you can't taste beet in this smoothie, it is an enriched source of folate—the B vitamin, which stimulates cell repair, which keeps the skin healthy and looks young. We also highly recommend hemp —this superfood contains a treasure of nutrients when it comes to calming flaky, red skin.
Detox Probiotic Smoothie
Probiotics can do wonders for the skin—and overall health. Pour in 2 capsules of Beautifully Nourished's Detox or Fibre Pro into your smoothie. When Paired together, lemon and cucumber smoothie is a profound radiance-boosting tonic. Vitamin C-rich lemons provide a blow of antioxidants and keep collagen production pumping, while hydrating cucumbers have majorly soothing anti-inflammatory properties.
Lemon-Thyme Blueberry Smoothie
The nutrient-packed blueberry is an enriched source of vitamins A and C and antioxidants that help fight wrinkle-producing free radicals. Adding chia seeds to the recipe adds hydration, fibre, and omegas. The lemon mellows out the smoothie's sweetness, and its vitamins and enzymes give it an extra portion of glow-boosting, alkaline nutrients.
As well as lemon and blueberries, add in skin-friendly ingredients kale, papaya and pineapple, which will provide you with every beauty-boosting vitamin and mineral. Above all, it contains collagen-happy, skin-brightening goodness; this smoothie also has a natural energy secret: B vitamins.
It might be the time to add these amazing skincare smoothies into your breakfast, lunch and dinner plans.
