During our natural cycles, there are times to energise and times to rest, nourish and restore. Following ovulation, progesterone becomes dominant, stimulating the sebaceous glands and leading to thicker sebum, a higher likelihood of premenstrual hormonal breakouts and increased skin sensitivity.
Focus on calming care and simplify your routine — this is not the time to introduce new actives. New skincare is best introduced after menstruation.
Nutritional support may also be beneficial. Cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, kale and cabbage can support liver detoxification of hormones, while red raspberry leaf and dandelion teas are often enjoyed during this stage.
